Free Tax Assistance Programs
AARP Tax-Aide
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax assistance free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 with low to moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide and are trained and IRS-certified every year.
Free File
The IRS Free File Program is a pubic-private partnership between the IRS and many tax preparation and filing software industry leaders who provide their brand-name products for free. It offers two ways for taxpayers to prepare and file their federal income tax online for free: Traditional IRS Free File and Free File Fillable Forms.
VITA and TCE
While the IRS manages the VITA and TCE programs, the VITA/TCE sites are managed by IRS partners and staffed by volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.
